The son of a friend just died by suicide this week and I've been feeling really heartbroken.
I think it's hard for us to remember that the purpose of life is for us to grow to be more like the Savior- and we do that by going through really, really hard things. That allows us to have empathy and love for each other. You have gone through heart-achingly difficult things and that has allowed you to have love, insight, compassion, and empathy that you couldn't have otherwise. But likewise, sometimes, God DOES give us more than we can take. I'm not sure why LDS people say that so often "God will never give you more than you can handle," because he does. If he only gave us trials and temptations that we could overcome- then we could all potentially be perfect in life, and we know we can't. Several people in my family have committed suicide too, and in every case- it doesn't seem selfish. It is heartbreaking and hard for us, yes, but must be so much harder for them and the only thing that we can do is love them and try to be more understanding and kind to those around us.
Anyway, you should write on this blog again. I miss your voice.
